Indian Patent Stone - IPS

IPS or Indian patent stone holds a special place in our history. Traditionally, we were a land of lime flooring, most houses had a hand made lime floor polished with the help of neighbours, friends and relatives.  Lime was slowly replaced by a cement mixture as this new material was introduced in the subcontinent, Colloquially called oxide flooring owing to the addition of metallic oxides for colour, this technique has been a staple in the finishing of residential buildings across the country. Many of us remember in soulful resolution the finely worn down surface of a particular patch of floor in our childhood homes.

Our mix of IPS can be made in hundreds of shades, even matching closely the colour of your lime plasters. The surfaces can be wrapped from flooring to wall, from bathtub to play pools, from seating to inbuilt tables. There is something to the leathery texture of the softly undulating surface. It makes you want to lean against it, walk around bare feet, or lay on its cool surface on a sultry summer afternoon.
